Wanted:
Southwest Early Childhood Development Coalition Assistant
The South West Edmonton Early Years (SWEY) Coalition is looking for an individual interested in early childhood development and optimizing the health and well-being of young families in southwest Edmonton.
Responsibilities:
The Coalition Assistant will work with the Coalition and its members to:
• Develop, maintain and implement an effective communication strategy to communicate
the ECD Mapping Data, information about ideal early childhood development and
supportive activities to community leaders, preschool providers, parents, caregivers,
etc. Use a diversity of ways (information media through electronic media eg. print, social
media, workshops, events, etc. ) to build capacity and knowledge to improve outcomes
of child development
• Solicit the interest, advice, and involvement of community members (both formal and
informal) to promote and take action on early childhood development issues within SW
Edmonton
• Engage community as partners in furthering the work of the coalition. Eg. Community
Leagues, local businesses, etc.Identify Early Years Development resources and
continue mapping using existing constructs
• Use an electronic record keeping system to track Coalition activities
• Assist with the development of measures to track progress and success
• Manage the budget and maintain financial records in conjunction with the SWEY fiscal
agent and treasurer
• Assist in drafting a long-term strategy for the on-going, long-term promotion and support
of Early Years work in SW Edmonton, including resources.
Qualifications:
• A strong belief in the importance of the early years
• Excellent interpersonal and networking skills with a strong capacity to communicate
effectively (both verbal and written), in one-to-one and large group meeting settings
• Experience with design in computer skills and creative communication resource
development
• Experience working on collaborative community-based projects, and knowledge about
effective ways to evaluate the progress of such projects
• Strong organizational skills (i.e. organizing meetings, record keeping, budgeting, etc)
• Ability to work independently, with accountability for results
• Familiarity of SW Edmonton and its communities is an asset, as is a solid understanding
of the EC Map project (www.ecmap.ca)

• Access to computer and printer
• Provision of own transportation
Contact Term:
• Contract position: July 15 to December 31, 2015
Remuneration
• Average 12 hours/week
• $25/hour
• No benefits
• Travel expenses within southwest, City-wide Coalition and other Coalition-related
activities to be provided
